STRATEGIES FOR SUCCESS
OAKS English teachers are trained to focus on preparing students to analyze and understand the workings of the English language, including language-based communication in all kinds of forms and contexts. This could include analysis of casual spoken conversation, text speak, advertising methods or the uses of language in specialized legal and medical discourse.

ENGLISH COURSES STRUCTURE
Those looking to study English will most likely enjoy both independent and group study, but you can expect majority of time spent gaining your English proficiency to be undertaken solo, as much of the course will require you to commit to long periods of reading and other interactions outside of class, e.g. Internet, specific videos and movies or series, and outdoor conversation training.
Average hours of contact time with OAKSES teachers vary. If you are a single module OAKSES student, you can expect at least 2 hours a week and slightly longer in your following outdoor conversation training as you take on a heavier study workload. The rest of the time you are expected to conduct independent study and assignments as well as tackling the reading list.
KEY SKILLS AND ASSESSMENT METHODS
OAKSES course will aim to stretch your independent thought and analytical skills. For this reason, teachers will not spoon-feed you information but rather expect you to develop your understanding by doing assigned exercises, readings and repetitive studies.
OAKSES course is typically assignment-based, with written exercises, essays and papers to be submitted regularly. Written exams and oral interviews are also common, often coming during and at the end of each course level. In some cases you may also be partly assessed based on your contributions to group discussions.
